The EF510-300 series is an AC/DC electric locomotive that was introduced to replace the ED76 and EF81 series currently operating in Kyushu. The previous 0 and 500 series, which mostly ran on DC sections, were equipped with regenerative braking, but the 300 series is equipped with AC regenerative braking since it mainly runs on AC sections.
The paint color is based on the silver color inherited from the EF81-300 series, with navy blue and red stripes on the bottom of the car body, and the logo is placed on the side of the car body, inheriting the nickname 'ECO-POWER Red Thunder' of the previous EF510 series.
The mass-produced pre-production car, No. 301, will appear in December 2021, and running tests are being conducted with the aim of starting operation around March 2023.
